This exhibition is open to any national or international artist 18 years of age or older. Original contemporary works in traditional and nontraditional printmaking media including book arts, three-dimensional and mixed media prints are eligible. All submissions must have been completed within the last three years. Straight or purely digital prints and photography are not eligible.


Karen Kunc received her BFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1975, and her MFA from Ohio State University in 1977. She is internationally known for her large scale, elaborately colored, abstract woodcut prints.

Kunc currently serves as Cather Professor and Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she has taught since 1983. The Willa Cather Professorship was established in 2001 by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to recognize faculty members with the rank of full professor who have established exceptional records of distinguished scholarship or creative activity.

Kunc has had one-person exhibitions at dozens of galleries throughout the United States and in the Czech Republic, Japan and Finland. Her works have been shown in more than 350 exhibits in the United States and 25 nations. She has taught workshops around the world, and has lectured as a visiting artist to over 200 institutions.

Kunc was recognized as the 2007 Printmaker Emeritus by The Southern Graphics Council International, and she received two Mid-American Arts Alliance / National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, a Nebraska Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship Master Award, and an individual Artist Fellowship, Ohio Arts Council.

Kunc’s works are represented in many public and private collections, including: the Museum of Modern Art (NY); the Library of Congress; the Smithsonian American Art Museum; Walker Art Center Library; Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha; Portland Art Museum, Portland, Oregon; Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University; Nerman Museum Contemporary Art, Kansas; Honolulu Academy of Art.
