Mixed media has been my passion since I first began painting in the 1970’s.  My work begins with a concept: a vision that caught my eye, a political event loaded with irony, music that delights my soul, a disturbing item from the news, words of a song that express a belief so perfectly.

The sensuality of drawing with charcoal in wet paint often begins my process. I apply collage, layer thick areas of paint with a palette knife, leave other areas as thin as watercolor, play with the dance of line, juxtapose smooth, flat surfaces against heavily-textured spaces.  I paint with bold reds, yellows, blues, and the unlimited variations of these strong primaries--so honest and forward. My goal is to achieve a balance between loose and aesthetic, spontaneous and precise.

In my art, I confront personal themes with a strong sense of color and a unique combination of abstraction and realism.
