As a figurative painter I look to the body as a metaphor.  I use the term "self-portrait" for many pieces but they are not physical self portraits, rather interior or psychological self portraits. 

I use dichotomy, reflective light, juxtapositions of styles and repetitive images that drift about the canvas in order to build surreal layers of obsessive thoughts of memento mori.  I often pull in an element from famous paintings by artists who have explored these same concepts  in order to add another layer meaning through historical reference.
